Michael Henry Dunn is a guy who has been around the block a few times. He’s a classically trained actor, having studied at Juilliard. He’s a musician and an activist. He’s an author, journalist, Substacker and scholar who has delved deeply into the controversies around Shakespeare’s true identity, the Code of Chivalry and global human rights. And he’s a really nice guy who happens to live in this funky little town in the Colorado high desert. Go figure.
Great great pod. Find your ONE Thing and water that. Then find others who are also passionate about that thing and water each other’s interest in it.
It is fascinating trying to define “coolness.” Each culture, religion, historical time period, etc. has its own definition of cool. But, there are some common denominators that arise. I think, like you said, vibrant enthusiasm laser focused on a pursuit with no concern for others opinions will always be cool. But is coolness simply a measure of where you fit in the social hierarchy? Like is the top wolf in a pack the coolest wolf in that pack?. In our society, we value money, power, fame, and beauty. So the richest, most powerful, most famous and beautiful are the coolest, right? No, that isn’t necessarily true. That’s what makes it a great question.
The financial system stuff is absolutely fascinating and never fails to confuse me. I would like to learn more about what he was specifically talking about in terms of a change from fiat currency (backed by government) to asset backed currency.
Hey Chris, another very interesting conversation. It definitely seemed like he was a bit weary of spilling the beans when it came to K.S.
Like you said we can sort of understand now how he has played so many sociopathic characters so well over the years. Keyser Soze, John Doe, Frank Underwood. The classic "he repressed all the pain from his childhood and channeled it into his characters" kind of thing.
Loved your intro about travelers and passion. Your interviewee lost me conclusively at Christiane Northrup…as his example for critical thinkers … and I appreciated the pivot back to Dunn’s life and career.
