In this second Bonus Ranting Out My Ass (BROMA), I play some intro snips from guys named Ben, then I talk (mostly) about Jaron Lanier’s Ten Arguments For Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now. Lanier is often referred to as a technovisionary, and his vision of the world being birthed by the internet seems to have darkened quite a bit since his days as a pioneer in virtual reality (a term he coined). From his web page:
Lanier founded VPL Research, the first company to sell VR products, and led teams originating VR applications for medicine, design, and numerous other fields. He is currently the "octopus" (which stands for Office of the Chief Technology Officer Prime Unifying Scientist) at Microsoft. He was a founder or principal of startups that were acquired by Google, Adobe, Oracle, and Pfizer.
Dude knows what he’s talking about when it comes to tech, and he’s alarmed.
