Listen now | Robert came to Spain to visit an old friend seven years ago, then went back to LA, quit his job, sold his house under the Hollywood sign, and brought his two daughters to live in a village by the “Playa de los Muertos,” where hundreds of dead sailors washed ashore after the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. These days, you’ll find Robert painting, reading, riding his horse on that beach, swimming in the Atlantic or just looking up at the night sky, taking in the majesty of it all. What more is there to life? It’s been a long road, and it’s led to an amazing place for this man.
Chris. I gotta say. A lot of people listen to this podcast when they're on drugs. And the switch to substack is confusing. Do they have an app? Anyway. Of course I shouldn't complain. Just telling you what I'm feeling on the otherside. From Australia. Cheers.
Substack has an app for iPhones. The Android version is coming soon (or so they say). The podcast still goes out to all the podcast apps as well as Spotify. And you can also find it on my Substack page. Not sure what's confusing you. You should be able to listen to it as you always have. Let me know if I can help.
As I hinted at before I may be on drugs. Below is my complaints. Up top is my love and a link to a Jonathan Richman song. https://youtu.be/btIwRs0BIKA
But if I try search for 'Substack Tangentially Speaking' on my browser, which I have to if there's no app (I'm android) then I have to put in my password and I always forget that. And it's just another step I've gotten used to not needing. To be fair I get mad at Rogan for moving to Spotify cause it doesn't work as well as YouTube. Jeez, worth it if you're gonna be in the chats dude. God bless Substack.
The concept of distractions entering into your dreamworld and becoming so overwhelming because they are a sign you're about to wake up, reminded me of the lore about 'siddhis' within the yogic/tantric traditions. The ancient teachers of India warned their pupils that after years and years of practice they would begin to experience spontaneous psychic abilities (telepathy, precognition, macro PK and even levitation) but those were NOT to be focused in by the student because the ultimate goal of the practice is to reach enlightenment --to wake up.
Interesting how, as Dean Radin has pointed out in his books, in the Western esoteric tradition it is actually the opposite, and the attaining of these powers is the ultimate goal of their practices.
Anyway, fascinating discussion. And if you get a chance to visit Conil de la Frontera perhaps you should do so --lots of interesting things have happened in that place, including one of my all-time favorites close encounters with humanoids ;)
I think we are out of the mix and go back to it. I think Mr de Vico gets a bit involved with human ego needs when he imagines we have been chosen of chose to be there to do SOMETHING.

Hi Chris, it is interesting how you said that America has a repressive philosophy when it comes to sex and Robert disagreed with you.
It is a difficult thing to figure out. You obviously have a lot of porn that comes out from America, mostly from California and Florida.
However along with that you do have a lot of conservative attitudes, government regulations, Christian fundamentalism. It seems like there is this confused relationship with sex. Almost like we can never figure it out. What is ok and what is not.

damn i cant believe you and duncan aren't that close anymore... the thought of you two never doing a podcast again is a serious bummer. personally probably 2 of the most influential podcast voices for me.. but you guys did have some of the best conversations in podcast history so there's that
I would have to say the same. I was fortunate enough to go to one of your live events with Duncan. I still have hope that you two will reunite somewhere down the road.
Yeah I couldnt believe that when he said it, its pretty sad, I love the their conversation, they had a beautiful chemistry, interesting ideas came from podcast with the two of them, and with JR as well, but people change with the time I guess, pretty sad.
I’m not sure I can keep listening to this Robert character after his opinion on hip hop. There are countless new and old hip hop artists that have poetry in there songs or at the very least are rapping about a lot more than the “base human”. Why have such a strong opinion on something he knows nothing about?
I respect Chris’s effort to give some credit to hip hop but outcast hasn't put out an album in 20’s years.
my thoughts exactly, dude is ignorant on hip hop and I hate when people base their views off the mainstream, so many intelligent, thoughtful hip hop artists. I was going to stop listening at this point but I let it go and it turned out to be a pretty great episode.
I dont blame them, most of the hip hop the media promotes its just money bragging and violence, things like that, sure there are more than that as you said just like any other genere, but you have to dig deep on the genere, and I dont think these two have time to do that.
Well, I always see it as conversation you have with a friend, its casual and is easy to do it, its not the first time that happens on the podcast but I never take it like a big deal, after all is not like they are debating or something more serious
Just felt the need to pause the podcast and strongly echo Robert’s encouragement to read Jitterbug Perfume. It is by far my favorite of Robbins’ work and I think you would find a lot to chew on between those pages. Much Love to Chris and everyone here!

MF DOOM is the GOAT in my humble opinion. This fits every definition of poetry:)
Enjoy!
I leave my 2 cents as well, I think Alfa Mist also fits on that

Talib Kweli, Common, Black thought, kid Cudi, j cole, a tribe called quest, immortal technique, run the jewels.
Just for anyways who is interested.
R.A.P Ferreira (also has project under name Milo), Billy Woods, Armand Hammer, Ka, Injury Reserve
Thank you, Im gonna take a look

Digging deep is just a simple google search away. Who get’s their opinions from the media anyway?
You might be right, but still I dont blame them for not knowing better, Im not that much into hip hop but Ive heard some cool old and new stuff.
I guess my point is why offer a strong opinion on something you know very little about. Hell of a way for Robert to start the pod.

One of Tom Robbins’ best!
I second this!
Well, goddamnit, I'm gonna add it to the list then!
Thanks again for great podcast!! Greetings from Ireland
