Oh Chris, you let your curmudgeon loose again. I guess we can agree to disagree on what kind of movies we like. I loved the new Top Gun movie as well as Ford vs Ferrari. They both got me engaged early on and kept me engaged throughout the movies. I do use movies for escapism vehicles. The movies (and books) I mostly seek out though are the ones that make me a better person or want to become a better person through some kind of understanding I gleaned from it. Those are in the minority though I'm sure you'll agree. I heard you mention that you might be traveling to Alaska and I think I even remember you saying Fairbanks (could be my imagination though). If you go to Fairbanks, I'll fucking kill you. I lived there for 15 years while you were traveling around in the lower 48. (I did get to hang with Andrew and Tiffany though when they came through Fairbanks, even got to be a guest on his podcast which was a blast). I missed you by a couple days when you came through Denver about 3 summers ago. I even met a friend in the same bar in Golden ("Senior Frog" or something like that in it's name) that you had your gathering in just a few days before you were there. But by that time I was back in Fairbanks. Also missed you when you went through Idaho last summer. I had invited you to come to Moscow Idaho as we just moved there from Fairbanks. But it was off your path and the invite went out a little too late. I knew it was highly unlikely you'd be able to make it but I asked in the spirit of "If you do not ask, you'll never get an answer". But I still got my fingers crossed we'll cross paths one day.
Chris, how long are you in Tbilisi for? I was just there for 6 weeks, can't believe I missed you!
Things to do:
- Go to Mkshketa Monastery (30 mins out the city by taxi)
- Rent a jeep and drive 4x4 to David Gareji Monastery. Don't, like I did, rent a Prius and drive 4x4 to David Gareji Monastery - it's a very different experince.
The scenery is jaw dropping up there though ... Shephards wandering the hills who look like they haven't heard of an iPhone. Rolling green hills, untouched by civilization since the Mongols. Views as far as Azerbaijan and Armenia. It's magical.
After that drive to Signagi, the captial of the wine region, and have a bottle or four.
- Svaneti - didn't go but meant to the best spot in Georgia
Have you tried their national dish Khachapuri? From the pictures I have seen on the Internet it looks delicious. Simple yet inviting.
Yes, in fact it was one of the first things I had. Very good, but if I get too into it, I'll add a pound a day, I'm sure.

It sounds like it's bound to happen. Not gonna make it to AK this year. Maybe next spring/summer.

Jack :)
Thanks Jack. We'll probably be here about a month, depending on how we like it. Thanks for the excellent suggestions. Added to the list.
Also forgot to add Kojori castle, it's about a 30min taxi out of the city. Really stunning spot. Had the best nature sex of my life up there.
Speaking of which, there's a Russian lassie I'm meeting back up with at the end of July... so I might be headed back out to Tbilisi then.
I'd love to buy you a pint if you're still around!
My email is hello@jackcampbell.co.uk. If you're happy to meet up, shoot me an email and I'll let you know if/when I'm headed back that way.
Nice one,
Jack
Chris I would love to hear your opinion on movies Mad God and Crimes of the Future.
Haven't seen them.
You are such an interesting person and I love reading about your travels. Your review of Top Gun was hilarious.
