I realize that me recommending podcasts is a bit like Tony’s Pizza recommending Luigi’s Pizza, but fuck it, if it’s good pizza, it’s good pizza! So here goes.
I’ve been listening to The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling, and I have to say, it’s very, very well done. The host has her own fascinating back-story that leaves her uniquely positioned to explore this contentious situation. (If you’re unaware, J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, dared to suggest that trans-women aren’t exactly the same as biological women, and that this should be taken into account in public policy, e.g., If a man decides he’s really a woman while being tried for sexual abuse, should he be sent to a women’s prison?) Even if you’re totally burned-out on this issue and all the vitriol surrounding it, the podcast offers some great background on the origins of so-called “wokism” and looks at both sides of the issue with compassion and insight.
